Les Balmettes and Faravel

The Balmettes (bottom, right-hand corner) is zone of high quality pasture on top of an alluvial fan (see preceding photograph). Despite the fact that this fan is only c. 500m in width, note the small parcel divisions. These are areas of pasture that would have been owned by different villagers during the 18th and 19th centuries. This complex system of land division demonstrates how this zone, and that to the north, were highly valued areas of pasture.
